Recently, Macao was attacked by another wave of epidemic. The SAR government issued instructions requiring adults to wear KN95 or other masks of higher protection standard. According to the Coronavirus Infection Response Coordination Center, as the epidemiological investigation, wearing masks properly all the time, especially with KN95 or higher protection standards, can help reduce the risk of infection and effectively prevent from it. At present, the KN95 mask provided by the SAR government to Macao residents complies with the national standard of GB2626-2019 self-priming filter anti particulate respirator. Reaching the KN95 level means that the filter efficiency of the mask on non-oily particulate matter reaches 95% or above, and the filter rate of the mask is stronger than that of the general surgical mask on fine particulate matter. According to the data of the Coronavirus Infection Response Coordination Center, the KN95 mask can prevent the spread of Coronavirus by 83%, which is higher than the 66% of the general surgical mask.

The comprehensive group of the joint prevention and control mechanism for Coronavirus Pneumonia under the State Council revised the guidelines on the wearing of masks by the public and key practitioners in August 2021. It is pointed out that the personnel of medical institutions exposed to potential pollutants should wear KN95 masks conforming to GB2626-2019 during work to achieve adequate protection.

The Macao Coronavirus Infection Response Coordination Center calls on the public to wear the mask correctly all the time when they go out or work. And when wearing the mask, they should ensure that the mask covers the mouth, nose and chin, and the nose clip needs to be compacted. In case of dirt, deformation, damage or odor, the mask shall be replaced in time. The center emphasizes that the correct wearing of the mask is the key to maintaining its effectiveness.

The Macao Economic and Technological Development Bureau and the Consumer Council will also pay close attention to the supply of epidemic prevention materials to the public, and maintain communication with suppliers and the retail industry.
